Police have provided an update on the nine-month-old baby who was stabbed in the Bondi Junction knife attack.
Her mother, Ashlee Good, 38, was among six innocent shoppers who were killed in the horrific random attack in Sydney's Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday.
A 40-year-old man went on a terrifying stabbing rampage at about 3.20pm before he was shot dead by a lone female police officer.
A total of nine people, including Dr Good's nine-month old daughter, suffered knife wounds.
The infant was rushed to hospital in a critical condition last night for emergency surgery.
Police provided an update on her condition this morning
'We understand baby Harriet is stabilising this morning. We understand that she underwent surgery and she remains in a serious but stable condition.
Her family also issued a statement on Sunday morning.
'Today we are reeling from the terrible loss of Ashlee, a beautiful mother, daughter, sister, partner, friend, all round outstanding human and so much more,' it read.
'We appreciate the well-wishes and thoughts of members of the Australian public who have expressed an outpouring of love for Ashlee and our baby girl.'
The baby's mother, Ashlee Good, 38, was among six innocent shoppers who were killed in the horrific random attack in Sydney 's Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday
The family's statement comes after details emerge about what happened the moment Dr Good and her baby were attacked.
The dying mother threw her injured baby into the arms of two strangers and selflessly begged them to help the infant.
The hero who took the baby was identified on Nine News shortly after tragedy.
'The baby got stabbed and, yeah, the mum got stabbed,' he said. 'The mum came over with the baby and threw it at me.
The man said he used clothes from a store to try to stem the baby's bleeding.
'I just helped by holding the baby... and trying to compress the baby.'
The two brothers stayed with the mother as they waited for emergency services.
'(It was) very bad... a lot of the blood on the floor... hope the baby's alright,' the other brother said.
Police are attending the scene in numbers and the Australian Federal Police are now liaising with NSW Police
Another witness, a worker at the shopping centre, recalled seeing a mother screaming on the level above.
'I see a mother and maybe her partner with a baby in a pram,' she told Nine News.
'She's screaming really, really loudly. She's running back and forth not knowing what to do.
'Then she comes back to the pram and picks up her baby and there's just blood all over her back.
'The scream was unforgettable, it was the scariest thing I've ever seen.
'My co-worker took me, we locked all the doors, had to turn off all the lights and doors'.
Heartbreaking images at the scene showed the baby being taken away in an ambulance.
Just 12 weeks after her little girl was born, Dr Good posted a heartfelt message to social media about being a mother.
'It's almost too much to put into words,' she posted.
'The love. The happiness. The fears. The new world. The new me; one that I'm still discovering as I enter motherhood and complete the so-called fourth trimester.
'It's like experiencing your heart swell with love whilst navigating anxiety for the first time.
'Feeling so proud, and then so overwhelmed. The dichotomy of it all.
'Pure joy and extraordinary exhaustion blended with emotions you've never felt before.'
She went on to say that it's a parent is 'the most outstandingly beautiful gift one can ever receive'.
She added: 'Sitting here feeling so deeply thankful, and still pinching myself she's ours.
'I love her so much.'
